What The Influencers Are Wearing To Australian Fashion Week 2018

In the leadup to MBFWA, we quizzed some of the industry’s top influencers on the trends we can expect to see and the shows they’re most excited to attend.

Sara Crampton

What trend will you be wearing at MBFWA?

Neutrals will continue to be a big trend this season and I’m really enjoying injecting more browns and beiges in my wardrobe.

How do you prep for such a busy week?

It’s all about getting your schedule organised so you’re not running from one end of town to the other. I work around the shows slotting in showroom appointments and meetings with our designers and potential brands at The UNDONE. Then work out when I’ll be dedicating time at the office and when I’ll be shooting content for HarperandHarley.

Which item wouldn’t you leave home without?

My phone and comfortable shoes.

Which designer are you most excited to see?

Albus Lumen had such a standout show last year, so I’m really excited by what Marina presents for this Resort season.

What’s your favourite thing about MBFWA?

Celebrating and supporting Australian fashion and the larger retail industry.

Elle Ferguson

What trend will you be wearing at MBFWA?

I always end up doing my own thing during fashion week. I also stick to one outfit a day which helps with planning outfits. I love incorporating denim into my looks and I have some beautiful pieces from Loewe that I will be mixing up.

How do you prep for such a busy week?

Organisation is key… working out the schedule is great and Uber is your best friend!

Which item wouldn’t you leave home without?

My mobile phone and portable charger

Which designer are you most excited to see?

Camilla & Marc opening the week is so exciting!

What’s your favourite thing about MBFWA?

It actually is the best place for a yearly reunion with everyone in the industry… it’s fabulous to all be together celebrating Australia fashion.

Carmen Hamilton

What trends will you be wearing at MBFWA?

I don’t like to deviate from my regular style too much. I have always been drawn to tailored separates, so suits will most likely be my go-to at MBFWA. I’m also loving pastels, Victorian era blouses and sea-themed jewellery, so it’s safe to say they will also make an appearance throughout the week!

How do you prep for such a busy week?

Fashion week can get very hectic and sleep isn’t really a number one priority, so I’ll be preparing by way of catching a lot of Z’s the week/weekend before. I also like to make sure that I’m on the ball when it comes to planning and organising content and projects for the week well ahead of time.

Which item wouldn’t you leave home without?

My portable phone charger!

What’s your favourite thing about MBFWA?

Australian style is inherently chilled, so MBFWA presents a fun opportunity to put together looks that might otherwise be considered too ‘dressy’ here. I love catching up with people in the industry that I don’t get to see very often, and most importantly, I love seeing what all the talented Australian designers have been up to.

Which designer are you most excited to see?

Hansen & Gretel, for sure. I like seeing emerging brands who are doing things differently, and last year their tropical Hawaiian-inspired collection was such a stand out for me, so I can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store this year.

Ally May Carey

What trend will you be wearing at MBFWA?

I think I will be mixing back a lot of vintage with Australian designers this year. Dressing for me, not trend based per se.

How do you prep for such a busy week?

Making sure work is prepped because I am generally out of office all week. Making sure all outfits are planned well in advanced so I am not stressed each day!

Which item wouldn’t you leave home without?

Phone, battery pack and a red lip!

Which designer are you most excited to see?

I love watching the emerging designers, but I am also really looking forward to Anna Quan, Acler, Michael Lo Sordo.

What’s your favourite thing about MBFWA?

I love everything from street style trends to the runway, catching up with friends in the industry and seeing fresh new talent emerging.

Carissa Walford

What trend will you be wearing at MBFWA?

This year, I’ll be focusing on putting together timeless looks that really reflect me, rather than head to toe trends. I love a quirky sparkly heel mixed with a seasonal bag to keep the look relevant.

How do you prep for such a busy week?

It’s a week full of fun and fashion – so it’s all about outfit prepping a few weeks prior and being super organised with show times. Sometimes it’s difficult when two favourite labels overlap and you have to pick one to attend, eek!

Which item wouldn’t you leave home without?

My phone of course, however other than that, I’d have to say mints – I do a lot of chit chatting so I need fresh breath of course!

Which designers are you most excited to see?

Camilla & Marc are opening this year which is really exciting. They are a label I’ve been a fan of for many years and I frequently wear their pieces. They do the best tailored blazers and coats for winter.

What’s your favourite thing about MBFWA?

Catching up with friends and people in the industry that have worked their butts off to show at such a major, credible event in the fashion world. I love supporting Aussie designers and checking out their latest collections.

Twice Blessed

What trend will you be wearing at MBFWA?

This year at MBFWA we’ll be sporting matching two-piece suits with a slight 80’s edge. Who ever thought (or wanted) anything from the 80’s to come back in trend, but here we are.

How do you prep for such a busy week?

Plan, plan, plan! We always say if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Where possible, we always pre-style out fashion week outfits from head to toe, so we’re not left stressing on the day!

From an organisational/business point of view, making sure our inbox is clear, and all emails are responded back to (we’re always on top of our emails, and find that if we’re not, we can get stressed and frazzled easily).

Which item wouldn’t you leave home without?

Portable charger! Especially during busy days and weeks, like at MBFWA, we find that our phone batteries are strained to the max. Having a portable charger on us, wherever we go, means we’re not limited to how many photos we can take, and how long we spend editing images or responding to emails!

Which designer are you most excited to see?

Camilla & Marc, as always! We’ve had a long-standing love affair with Camilla & Marc for years and are so excited for what they showcase at MBFWA on opening night.

What’s your favourite thing about MBFWA?

Besides the fashion (of course), being able to catch up with all of our friends in the industry who we don’t usually get to see. We have photographer friends who come to MBFWA all the way from the US!
