Australian Woman Raped On Honeymoon In Samoa Speaks Out

The couple's shock warning to other travellers.

An Australian woman was raped on her honeymoon in Samoa, while her husband was forced to watch.

Angie Jackson and Tommy Williams from Tasmania were staying in tree-house accommodation when serial felon Lautiiti Tualima climbed into their room armed with a pair of scissors. He bound the couple and raped Jackson.

At the time of the attack, Tualima was on the run after escaping prison on rape, robbery and violence convictions.

Nine months on, the couple have got justice after the man pleaded guilty of all charges.

Speaking to 60 Minutes, the couple spoke about the horrific incident.

“I was just so angry laying next to Angie when all of this was happening,” said Williams. “And not being able to do anything for the one you love. Not to be able to help her.”

Jackson was terrified that this would be the moment that they died.

“I was just like, this can’t be the way they die, I want to see my family again.”

Jackson and Williams have also warned others not to visit the South Pacific nation because of poor security at the prison.

“The best thing that we can hope for is that the prison conditions are improved, the security is improved, so that when he is put away for the rest of his life, he stays there,” says Jackson.

Tualima will be sentenced on July 22.

The President of Samoa told 60 Minutes the prison was being rebuilt and moved to a new location.
