The 73rd British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards have come to a close and as one of the last in a marathon award show season, all eyes were on this year’s winners as a predictor of what’s to come at the 2020 Oscars.

Despite an impressive list of nominees, and an equally show-stopping list of red-carpet arrivals – including royals Kate Middleton and Prince William – the BAFTAs received their fair share of controversy for nominating only white actors.

This year, we saw the formidable Renée Zellweger take out the gong for leading actress for her role in Judy, the musical biopic that has already won her a Golden Globe and SAG Award, boosting her chances at the Oscars considerably.

Another noticeable mention goes to the king of 2020 award shows, Brad Pitt, who was successful in winning the award for best supporting actor for his role alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. His speech, which was presented by Robbie undeniably stole the show, with the actor hilariously joking about the royal family and BREXIT.
