Kristen Wiig’s New Comedy Gives Us The Hilarity Of ‘Bridesmaids’ With The Kitsch Of ‘Kath & Kim’

Enter: 'Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar'

If the comedic genius that is Kristin Wiig and Annie Mumolo’s Bridesmaids still has you writhing in stitches, the comedic duos latest project is sure to do the same—and it’s headed to our screens sooner than you think.

Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, the new comedy from the Oscar-nominated screenwriters, follows titular best friends Barb (Mumolo) and Star (Wiig), who leave their small Midwestern town for the first time to go on vacation in Vista Del Mar, Florida. There, they soon find themselves tangled up in adventure, love and a villain’s evil plot to kill everyone in town.

The pair star alongside Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey), who makes an appearance in the first colourful, quirky trailer this week—shirtless, we might add.

In true Wiig and Mumolo fashion, the trailer gives the first glimpse at the absurd and hilariousness to come.

The clip opens with Barb and Star celebrating their love of movie trailers. “I like how they’re little movies about another movie before a different movie,” Star tells Barb. If they had their own movie trailer, the ladies discuss, they wouldn’t want to give anything away about the movie—especially their faces.

While we don’t get to see their faces just yet, the two-minute teaser does feature plenty of shirtless men, Hawaiian prints and even an evil lair.

The supporting cast also includes Wendi McLendon-Covey, Damon Wayans Jr., and Vanessa Bayer, and it’s already set to be one of the funniest films of 2021.

The Lionsgate film will be released digitally and will be available to rent online starting February 12. The film was originally scheduled to open in theatres on July 16, 2020, but the studio shifted release plans amid the pandemic.
