Behati Prinsloo Reveals She Struggled With Postpartum Depression

The Victoria’s Secret Angel opens up about her struggle with depression

When it comes to Victoria’s Secret Angels, it seems they have no flaws or problems. Their skin is always shining bright, their bodies are the envy of the world and their lives seem picture perfect. So when one admits that they struggle with the realities of life, we’re a little shocked. Now, Angel Behati Prinsloo has revealed she struggled with postpartum depression following the birth of her first child, Dusty Rose, with husband Adam Levine.

Speaking to NET-A-PORTER’s digital magazine, PorterEdit, Prinsloo admitted it wasn’t all roses following her first pregnancy, saying “After my first baby, I had a little postpartum depression and it was difficult to get back into normal life, but after the second one everything felt so much easier; it was easier for me to workout, breastfeeding was easier.”

However, the model, who was quickly pregnant with her second child, Gio Grace Levine, following the birth of Dusty Rose, said she enjoyed being pregnant and didn’t rush back to work.

“I’ve been modeling for 15 years and when I got pregnant I didn’t want to do anything, I wanted to enjoy my time. I really liked being pregnant and not working. No one pressured me to return to work, not even Victoria’s Secret, who I was under contract with – they never asked me when I was going to be back.”

Further, Prinsloo confirmed she turns to the support of her fellow Angel friends when it comes to parenting, sharing everything from product tips to life advice.

“I have a WhatsApp group with my best friends [models] Candice Swanepoel and Lily Aldridge. Lily is pregnant at the moment so me and Candice are constantly telling her what products to get. […] It’s a mom thread!”

Prinsloo is in good company. Fellow model Chrissy Teigen has also opened up about her struggle with postpartum depression, writing an open letter about the experience in Glamour and admitting it was one of the hardest times of her life. Another model, Tess Holliday, has shared her own struggle of recent, revealing she was in “the worst mental health state of my life”. Similarly, Gisele Bündchen has spoken out about her mental health, admitting she’s suffered from suicidal thoughts and panic attacks over the years.

Prinsloo’s two children are now two and 10 months old, respectively.
