This is the strangest yoga class we’ve ever heard of

Beer drinkers, step right up

If there’s one thing you probably don’t associate with yoga, it’s alcohol. Or sugar. Or – God forbid – wheat.

Yogis are more likely to be found swilling kombucha and nibbling on gluten-free nut bars, right?

Wrong – the newest form of yoga isn’t aerial, beachside or nude – it’s Bier Yoga.

The practice originates in Berlin, Germany, where the beer flows as freely as the asanas and participants balance bottles on their heads in order to find their zen.

We’re not even joking:

What’s more, Bier Yoga is coming to Sydney this weekend for just two sessions at The Sheaf in Sydney’s Double Bay, Broadsheet reports. There are also sessions in Melbourne.

According to the Bier Yoga website, the practice is “the marriage of two great loves – beer and yoga. Both are centuries old therapies for body, mind and soul.”

“The joy of drinking beer and the mindfulness of yoga complement each other, and make for an energising experience,” it adds. Interested? The $10 classes require you to BYO towel or yoga mat, with more details on the Bier Yoga Facebook page.
