Wait, Why Didn’t This Iconic Scene Make It Into ‘Big Little Lies’?

Fans are furious

Big Little Lies season two has brought with it a lot of drama, mostly at the hands of Meryl Streep’s character, Mary-Louise Wright. Mary-Louise burst onto the scene after her son Perry’s death and while she’s mainly in Monterey to look for answers, she’s also spent a lot of time throwing low blows at the other women on the show, none more so than Reese Witherspoon’s character, Madeline. So naturally, fans were excited to see Reese throw some back – literally.

Ahead of the season premiere, a photo leaked online showing Reese throwing an ice cream at the back of Meryl’s head. Naturally, it quickly went viral and even Reese regrammed it, confirming her aim was spot on and she hit Meryl. She later called the moment one of her biggest career highlights.

“I think it’s one of the top moments of my entire career,” Witherspoon said on Good Morning America in September 2018. “For real… And I hit her! Like, I nailed it! She turned around and she was like, ‘Yeah you got me.'”

But on last night’s episode, fans were gravely disappointed when Meryl approached Reese and her on-screen daughter, Abigail (Kathryn Newton), with their huge ice creams in hand before walking away, completely unscathed.

Thankfully, despite the scene being cut from the episode, we’ll at least still get to see it at some point. “[Reese] just told me it’s not in the show!” Streep told ET about the scene at the season two premiere. “It’s [going to be] in the DVD extras.”

Fans? Not happy.
