Bindi Irwin, 21, and Chandler Powell, 24, have shared the first photos as man and wife, following their surprise wedding yesterday evening. The couple said ‘I do’ in a small ceremony at Australia Zoo, just hours before a shutdown on weddings was enforced by the Australian government amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“March 25th 2020 ❤️. We held a small ceremony and I married my best friend. There are no words to describe the amount of love and light in my heart right now,” Bindi wrote.
“We’ve planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything, as we didn’t have guests at our wedding.
“This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe. We wish all of our friends and family could have been there with us, however it’s lovely that we will be able to share photos and videos.
“Right now we’re encouraging the world to hold onto hope and love, which will carry us forward during this profound time in history.”
Although the newlyweds chose to have no guests attend the ceremony, they were was still able to include their families in the celebration, Bindi sharing that her mum Terri helped her get ready for the day and brother Robert walked her down the aisle in her father’s place.
“Today we celebrated life and revelled in every beautiful moment we shared together in our Australia Zoo gardens,” she continued.
“Mum helped me get ready, Robert walked me down the aisle, Chandler became my husband and together we lit a candle in Dad’s memory.
“We shared tears and smiles and love. Thankfully, since we all live at Australia Zoo as a family, we could be there for each other.
“To everyone reading this – stay safe, social distance and remember LOVE WINS!”
Rumours began circling earlier yesterday when aerial footage spotted Bindi exiting a car in a white gown at an erected wedding venue space under a ring of white umbrellas. Powell proposed to his now-wife on her 21st birthday in 2019, after a six-year courtship.
“She said YES! Almost 6 years ago we met at Australia Zoo,” he shared on Instagram at the time. “I immediately fell head over heels for her kind and thoughtful heart that radiates so much light.
“Proposing in her very favourite place in the zoo, surrounded by animals, seemed like the perfect way to embark on this incredible new chapter in our lives. Bee, I love you more than anything in this world and I always will. Happy Birthday.”
