‘Birdboxing’ Is The New Dating Trend To Look Out For In 2019

It seems that 2019 is the year of the unexpected dating trends, with emerging terms sneatingcurving and firedooring taking charge. But, just when you thought you’d heard them all, a new one pops out to take you by surprise. 

Tinder has coined a new dating term of their own – ‘birdboxing’. Taking its name from the Netflix movie with Sandra Bullock, their definition is as follows: “being blind to just how bad your partner/the person you’re seeing is”. So, basically just not realising how 

For those who haven’t seen the Netflix film, survivors must wear blindfolds to avoid looking at monsters that’ll kill them. 

That’s not the only dating trend Tinder decided to give a name to. Below, some of the terms. 

Exagger-date: The act of embellishing a date so as to suggest it went way better than it actually did. 

Buzz-erflies: The feeling you get when your phone buzzes, and it’s the maybe-special someone you’ve been waiting to hear from all day.

S.O. stalemate: When neither party will start the define-the-relationship conversation, leading to no relationship progress whatsoever.

Insta-gator: The person who initiates contact or first publicises a relationship via social media by tagging, DM-ing or posting a photo of you two. Can be good or bad.
