Blake Lively’s ‘Deconstructed’ Dress Has Her Fans Very Confused

Never one to shy away from a fashion risk!

Blake Lively might famously not have a stylist, but it doesn’t mean she’s immune to outfit criticism. In fact, her fans really don’t hold back when they think there’s been a fashion faux pas at the hands of the Gossip Girl star. Case in point: Lively’s recent outing wearing a Monse dress.

The dress in question, which is described as a “deconstructed slashed wool-blend jacket dress” is exactly what it sounds like: a dress that sort of looks like a jacket but has dress parts to it, too.

Naturally, Lively’s fans were confused. Taking to the comments section of her Instagram post wearing the outfit, questions were being asked to the purpose of the hanging shirt section — among other, amusing, things.

“Give Ryan his shirt back!” one fan wrote, referencing Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds. “Something is hanging out of your dress,” another wrote. “Is that a dish towel coming out from underneath?” was another. “Is that a napkin?” followed. But Lively was one step ahead, with her caption on the outfit perfectly summing up what we were all thinking.

“Going for: ‘Cinderella post stepsisters tearing up her gown because they hate her’ chic…,” she wrote, clearly referencing the “deconstructed” detailing of the dress, something the designers of Monse are well known (and lauded!) for.

Although the dress is no longer available, it was retailing for a huge $3,450 on Moda Operandi, and is now sold out. A lot to pay for some dangling material — but, as any fashion editor will quickly point out, worth every penny for a Monse item.

But Lively’s expensive taste didn’t stop with the shirt-dress. Opting for a pair of Christian Louboutin Calypso heels — circa 2009 — Lively added another $1500 to the cost of the outfit, bringing the total up to a sweet $4,950.

A lot for date night, sure, but not as much as Meghan Markle spent today. Ah, rich people.
