Bottega Veneta’s Artful Invasion Of Melbourne

Handbag explosion!

For one night only it seemed that Melbourne was ground zero for Bottega Veneta handbags. The reason for the population explosion of cool The Knot clutches and a cabal of Cabal handbags was a visiting exhibition called Bottega Veneta: Masters Of Craft at the Australian Centre of Contemporary Art in Melbourne.

In this case the art was off the walls and on installations, with a team of Italian skilled artisans showing the work that goes in to creating the coveted handbags.

More art could be found dangling from the shoulders of celebrity guests, including actor and director Rachel Griffiths, Wentworth’s Sigrid Thornton, artist Kitty Callaghan, Rozalia Russian and model Shanali Martin.

This was art that you could touch and buy from Bottega Veneta’s Collins Street store but only after downing a few Proseccos and salumi slices from the luxury label’s Italian themed spread.

While the artisans are set to return to Bottega Veneta’s stately headquarters in Montebello Vicentino, the handbag population of Melbourne only looks set to keep on growing, Italian style.
