In recent years, Brad Pitt has been openly discussing his journey to sobriety. Last night while accepting the award for Best Supporting Actor at the National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala, the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood actor revealed that fellow actor Bradley Cooper was the one that encouraged him to become sober.

While accepting the award, presented by Cooper, Pitt made sure to mention that Cooper was previously on bedtime duty with his two-year-old daughter, Lea De Seine Shayk Cooper, before rushing over to the ceremony to present the award.
“Thank you, Bradley. Bradley just put his daughter to bed and then rushed over to do this,” gushed Pitt.
“I got sober because of this guy, and every day’s been happier ever since,” Pitt announced to the audience. “I love you, and I thank you.”

During an interview with Interview magazine in 2019, Pitt called his alcoholism a “disservice” and a method of “escape.” Pitt spent a year and a half in Alcoholics Anonymous after his 2016 split from Angelina Jolie and has remained sober ever since.
Pitt has also openly admitted the breakdown of his marriage with Angelina Jolie was “self-inflicted” and due to his drinking habits in a revealing interview with GQ Style.
The messy and incredibly public split was reportedly due to a fight Pitt had had with his son Maddox while on the couple’s private jet. A custody battle ensued over the coupe’s six children, with Pitt initially investigated for possible child abuse.
“I mean, we have a winery. I enjoy wine very, very much, but I just ran it to the ground. I had to step away for a minute,” he said.
“And truthfully I could drink a Russian under the table with his own vodka. I was a professional… I mean I stopped everything except boozing when I started my family. But even this last year, you know – things I wasn’t dealing with. I was boozing too much. It’s just become a problem.”
