Without a doubt, the most talked about news story of 2017 was the New York Times piece revealing multiple allegations of sexual assault and harassment against film producer Harvey Weinstein.

Days after the story broke, some of Hollywood’s biggest names – Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Rose McGowan and Uma Thurman, to name a few – came forward to accuse Weinstein of sexual misconduct with detailed recollections of their harrowing encounters.

But publishing a damning story on one of the world’s most powerful and influential men doesn’t come easy. Journalists Jodi Kantor and Mean Twohey were threatened and harassed at every step of their 10-month investigation before finally hitting publish in October 2017.

As a result, the #MeToo movement was born, and, before long, a legal fund called Time’s Up was launched to help victims of sexual misconduct in the workplace.

Kantor and Twohey – along with fellow journalist Ronan Farrow – were awarded a Pulitzer Prize for their history-making coverage, something Brad Pitt plans to cover in a film about the investigation.

A spokesperson for Annapurna Pictures told E! News the movie will follow the “story behind the women who led the investigation itself and will not be about or centred around ‘the man’ or the men behind the abuse. It is about how this team of reporters tracked, chased and broke this story.”

Of course, Pitt has a personal history with Weinstein: his two exes Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie revealed they had been sexually harassed by the 66-year-old, with Pitt saying he confronted Weinstein about Paltrow after she told him what had happened.
