Everything You've Ever Wanted To Know About Getting A Brazilian Wax

Everything You've Ever Wanted To Know About Getting A Brazilian Wax

Shopping for a real bra, first menstrual cycle and buying makeup for the first time have long been considered rites of passage every woman experiences. Up there with those coming of age traditions is getting your first Brazilian wax.

Conjuring up the courage to get a Brazilian wax is a challenge all on its own. Unlike waxing eyebrows, chins, and underarms, Brazilian waxing doesn't require any paper strips. Speaking to Ella Baché's National Training Manager, Gina Cook, we got the low down on what to expect at Brazilian wax. We also break down what you need to do before, during, and after your wax for the smoothest skin.

What is a Brazilian wax, exactly?

A Brazilian wax removes all the hair from your bikini area (top, sides, front, back)

Does it hurt?

This differs from client to client as everyone has a different pain threshold. This also comes down to the skill of the Therapist. However, the long term effect of waxing essentially makes the hair thinner and also results in less hair growth which means your treatments over time will become easier, quicker, and will not hurt as much.

How can you prep?

Gently exfoliate the day before your waxing treatment, we recommend using. This will allow the removal of dead skin cells that can build up around the hair follicle and will allow the hair to be removed easier and prevent ingrown hairs post waxing treatments. Ensure you do not shave between waxing treatment. Ensure the length of the hair is at least half a centimetre long for it to be effectively removed.

Can you wax on your period?

Waxing on your period is not recommended for hygiene purposes. The skin is also most sensitive right before and during your period, making the wax more uncomfortable for the client.

How long does a wax last?

This depends on the individual hair growth of the client, a Brazilian wax can last from 3- 6 weeks.

How do you care for your skin afterwards?

Ensure you avoid the gym and sauna for 8 hours post treatment to avoid open hair follicles becoming infected, exfoliate two days after your waxing treatment to prevent ingrown hairs from occurring. To prevent ingrown hairs, exfoliation of the area is recommended plus the addition of Ella Baché Treatment cream, Intex No.2 always on hand. It is the perfect treatment product known for its calming soothing and antibacterial properties  to prevent ingrown hairs from forming and causing inflammation
