Facebook Bans Breast Cancer Fundraising Post On Grounds Of Nudity

Survivors label the decision "insane" and "insulting"

Breast Cancer Network Australia has said it is “deeply disappointed” after Facebook decided to ban images its latest campaign which features topless survivors.

The controversial images depict the scars and mastectomies of nine women and one man and while the fundraising ads were approved by Facebook last month, the social media juggernaut had a last-minute backflip before The Bakers Delight “Every Fun Bun Counts” today.

Kate Murray told Seven’s Sunrise the decision was insulting.

“I thought the images were beautiful and tasteful,” she said. “It’s insulting they banned them when they live stream mass murder and homophobic diatribes. It’s insane they would ban something so thoughtful and supportive as this campaign.”

When the campaign launched, breast cancer survivor Lindsey Kennedy said it was intended to raise awareness in a fun way.

“We’re hoping to achieve lots of attention and raise awareness about how yucky breast cancer can be and raise lots of money … and have fun along the way,” she said.

The pink buns are on sale in Bakers Delights stores with all funds raised going to Breast Cancer Network Australia.
