The Dominating Bridal Beauty Trend You Need To Know, According To A Celebrity Makeup Artist

Plus, how to expertly prep your skin for the big day

Venue? Check. Flowers? Check. Cake? Triple check. So far, your wedding planning is running smoothly. But, you’re stumped on your big day beauty regime? From facials, scent consultations, concealer, tissues, lashes – when it comes to bridal beauty, it’s almost too daunting to even begin. It doesn’t have to be though.

We spoke with Kelly Bowman, celebrity hair and makeup artist – and part of The Future Mrs, an elite bridal booking agency — about the biggest upcoming bridal beauty trends, how brides should prep for their big day, and what they should avoid going into it. From learning to take care of your skin, to finding the perfect balance of glamour and being you, Bowman spills on all things pre-wedding beauty.

Below, Bowman’s expert guide to bridal beauty prep.

What Are The Biggest Bridal Trends Right Now: Skin that looks and FEELS like skin! The key to creating a flawless natural finish is by leaving the coverage light enough so you can still see the client’s skin coming through. Foundation doesn’t need to be one thickness all over the face. I like to start light and build the product as and where I see that the client needs it. Satin finish foundations are a universally flattering formula and will give you the perfect natural-looking skin. My go-to’s for creating this look are Giorgio Armani ‘Luminous Silk foundation and NARS ‘Sheer Glow foundationLashes are a go-to right now, too. I tend to use individuals over strip so I can customise placement to best suit my client’s eye shape by adding thickness and length where needed. I suggest sticking to short/medium length lashes as I find creating volume, rather than just length, creates perfect, natural-looking lashes. My go-to is Ardell Individual Knot-Free Short paired with Ardell DOUBLE Individual Knot Free Short.

What Is The Makeup Choice You Tend To Tell Brides To Avoid: Let’s face it, the thought of walking down the aisle for most women is quite daunting! You want to feel like yourself and as comfortable as you can with the whole room looking at you, right? My advice is; don’t steer too far away from your usual makeup look. Whether that be a bold red lip or a natural beach babe look, do you, and rock it.

How Should Brides Prep Their Skin For The Big Day: Set up a consult with a beauty therapist who can assess your skin and help you set up a strategy (monthly facials – heaven! ) to achieve your dream skin gaols. or an on-going skin care treatment plan, The Future Mrs recommends RATIONALE as their preferred skin care clinic. The Rationale consultants, along with their prescribed treatments and products, will set you up with luminous skin for your wedding day, and the rest of your life. If this isn’t an option, just give a little extra love to your skin in the months (as far in advance as you can) leading up to the wedding. Make sure you remove all makeup of an evening by cleansing and at least – use a serum, eye cream and moisturiser and exfoliate once a week. Don’t forget your décolletage! Use a hydrating mask the night before the big day and eye patches the morning of. Be sure you test these out prior to the wedding in case of any reactions. My recommendations are Go-To’s ‘Transformazing’ Sheet Mask and Peter Thomas Roth 24k Pure Gold Luxury Lift & Firm Hydra-Gel Patches.

What Do You Suggest Brides Do During The Day To Keep Their Makeup Intact: I always recommend having on hand your lipstick, touch up concealer, a mini powder, a few cotton tips and if you’re a crier (like me!) – a mini pack of tissues.  If the tears do start to flow, just remember to pat, not wipe!
