If you’re anything like us, deciding on a makeup look for a big event requires weeks of planning, a whole mood board and the purchasing of at least one (but, probably more) new product.
So, when it comes to arguably the most important look we’ll ever wear—our bridal makeup—we’re going to seek a little extra expert guidance on what’s trending and how to achieve it.
In 2022, our continuing obsession with the ‘clean’ beauty aesthetic will make its way down aisles everywhere.
“Fresh, clean skin is here to stay, meaning it’s less about strong contouring or over highlighting and more about making skin look like skin,” celebrity makeup artist and Skinfluence podcast host Michael Brown tells marie claire Australia.
“For this you need a great brightening yet hydrating serum, like Olay Vitamin C + Niacinamide, a blurring primer is a MUST-HAVE for any bridal/glam look, as it smoothes pores in the central areas of the face, I love Makeup Forever Pore Minimizer and lastly, a good quality, luminous and buildable coverage foundation that won’t look shiny, like Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk,” Brown recommends.
Moving away from chiselled cheekbones, Brown says rosy hues will be on the rise as the perfect complement to clean skin.
“Blush has made a comeback for brides—no ‘80s pink swipe though, but a soft peachy application on the apple of the cheek only. This freshens and lifts the face, which is always great when feeling tired and dull,” he says.
His top pick? Nudestix Nudies Bloom All Over Dewy Color Blush in Sweet Peach Peony which can also be used “for lips and even an eyelid base colour”.
Like all aspects of the beauty-sphere, bridal makeup won’t be immune to Euphoria’s influence.
“Adding a concentrated metallic wash of colour on the central eyelid is a big trend at the moment, think TV show Euphoria, and the more foil-like the metallic the better,” Brown tells us.
But, there is a fine balance when it comes to making the look work for your wedding day.
“For bridal makeup though, there is flash photography, so my tip is to think less is best! Only add a very small amount of a metallic shade at the very centre and as close to lash line as possible so it doesn’t overtake your look.”
“Always use a fingertip to press a metallic finish to the eye, this avoids fall-out and always balance with matte shades around socket and outer lash line areas, with a palette like Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Quad.”
While we won’t be going full-Maddy for our bridal makeup, we can channel a little of Cassie and stock up on these recommendations for the big day.
