Turns Out, There’s A Reason Why We Never Saw Kate And Anthony’s Wedding In ‘Bridgerton’

This makes so much sense.

Warning: The following story contains spoilers to Bridgerton season 2.

It’s been less than a month since the second season of Bridgerton hit our screens (and our hearts). And in that time, dedicated fans have been able to watch—and rewatch—the moments that Julia Quinn’s books wrote out so beautifully.

Naturally, there have been a number of changes between the book and on-screen adaptation, one being changing the character of Kate Sheffield into Kate Sharma. But fans have pointed out that some scenes from season two, notably the second wedding, were left out of the series entirely.

In an interview with Insider, Cheryl Dunye, a director on Bridgerton explained that there was actually a very logical reason for leaving out the wedding between Viscount Anthony and Kate.

“There was a big wedding before,” Dunye told the publication, adding, “Two weddings in a show that were that spectacular, one could not do after the other.”

While she wasn’t solely involved in the decision to cut out Anthony and Kate’s nuptials, Dunye explained how she explained the writers’ reasons to drop the moment from the show.

“I was just like, ‘Yeah, you’re going to make the other wedding look paltry if this wedding was bigger’,” she said.

While their wedding was left to the viewers’ imagination, Dunye did take part in depicting the couple after their walk down the aisle and celebrating marital bliss at the Bridgerton manor.

“Their lovemaking was different [from Daphne and Simon’s in season one] in that they were completely equal partners,” she said, adding, “That was something that we saw that was different but passionately engaged”.

When demonstrating their mutual sexual equality, Dunye ensured that the actors and the show’s intimacy coordinator worked as a team to find “positions where we feel both people being satisfied as partners”. Doing that, it allowed the audience to believe that the pair are blissfully married, which fans most certainly believed.

For those still eager to envision Kate and Anthony walking down the aisle, then perhaps Quinn’s The Viscount Who Loved Me is worth a read. While the series shows Anthony and Edwina meet at the altar, the book sees them come to their senses before a wedding took place.

Either way, until season three graces our screens—or the Queen Charlotte prequel gets underway—you can find the novel below.
