A Popular Brisbane Graphic Designer Has Been Charged With Her Husband’s Murder

The incident occurred five days before Christmas

36-year-old Queensland designer, Katie Ann Corben, has been charged with the murder of her husband.

The Courier Mail reports, Corben allegedly fatally stabbed Jarred Castel in the chest five days before Christmas during an altercation in their family home.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 9pm on December 20, finding the couple’s four-year-old son inside, The Brisbane Times reports.

Thankfully, police are under the impression the boy was in bed at the time and didn’t witness the violent incident.

Corben has been remanded in custody since first appearing in court over the murder allegations. She is due to face court again next month.

The Courier Mail notes that Corben’s design business has been temporarily shut down, with a note in the business Instagram page saying: “Sorry, trade closed for now.”

Neighbour Ellen Shanahan says Castel’s death is “heartbreaking,” telling The Brisbane Times she had seen the father-of-one just the day before his death, noting “everything was fine”.

“[He was] a lovely, lovely man, [who would] always smile and wave whenever I’m on my route to work every single morning.”
