The Biggest Brow Blunders You’re Making

Plus, an expert reveals exactly how to fix them

Full brows are here to stay – but arches are more understated than they were a season or two ago. Here’s how to get your best yet.

For a long while, our Instagram feeds have had us believing dark and standout is the only route to good-looking brows, but there is a rethink happening.

“Once everyone was going quite dark and very sharp, but now everything is softening,” says Hannah Mutze, Benefit’s national brow artist. “Brows can still be defined and bold, but they are now more natural and more in line with hair colour.”

Brow Blunders

Arches not looking selfie-worthy? There are two brow issues that could be holding your best brows back.

Issue #1: Distance

“Women often take the browns too far apart,” says Mutze. “If your brows are too spaced, your eyes end up looking smaller, your nose looks wider and it throws off the overall balance of your face.”

Brow Fix: Step away from the tweezers. “The only thing you can do is wait and grow them back in,” says Mutze, who suggests using the outside of your nostril as an indicator of where brows should start. “Anything between those two points, don’t touch,” she says.

Issue #2: Placement

“Placing your arch in the wrong sport is another brow mistake,” says Mutze. “If your arch is too far in, your face looks rounder and your eyes look rounder, which can [emphasise] dark under-eye circles.”

Brow Fix: Have your brows professional brow mapped. “Find out where the start, arch and end of your brow should sit,” says Mutze. “It can be adapted to each individual face shape.” Benefit has a free brow-mapping service at all its brow counters.
