Man Accused Of Raping Brittany Higgins To Stand Trial In ACT Supreme Court

Bruce Lehrmann is expected to stand trial in 2022.

Bruce Lehrmann, the man accused of raping Brittany Higgins in Parliament House in March 2019, has been committed to stand trial in the ACT Supreme Court. He has pleaded not guilty.

Lehrmann, 26, a former Liberal party staffer, appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court by telephone on Friday.

He was summonsed on the charge earlier this year, prompted by a complaint by Higgins.

His lawyers had earlier asked for more time to prepare a case, telling the court they had been unable to meet their clientcurrently in Queenslandface-to-face due to COVID-19 restrictions. They were granted an additional three weeks to prepare.

However, the case was today committed for trial in the Supreme Court, with a first mention expected later this month. A trial is expected to go ahead in 2022.
