Queen Elizabeth Has Revealed Windsor Castle’s Christmas Decorations, And They’re As Magical As You’d Expect

The festive season has arrived

Christmas has arrived at Windsor Castle! Queen Elizabeth is spending the holiday in Windsor and has revealed the festive decorations that have filled the royal home—including the season’s signature: a giant Christmas tree.

The Royal Collection Trust shared a new video of this year’s Christmas tree, from it being cut down in Windsor Great Park to the tree taking its place in the historic St. George’s Hall—the same location where Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had their wedding reception in 2018.

Palace staff reportedly needed a full two days to decorate the Norwegian spruce, which boasts over 3,000 lights and ornaments, and completed with an angel on top.

Normally, Her Majesty and the rest of the royal family would spend Christmas at their Sandringham Estate, where they participate in the annual Christmas Day procession that ends at a local church for morning mass. However, due to COVID-19 guidelines in the U.K., the monarch and her family—like many families around the globe—will be staying put at their respective residences instead.

“They are fortunate to spend Christmas with their family every year, but they understand that their family will have competing demands over the Christmas period and are content to have a quiet festive season this year,” a royal source told PEOPLE.

It will be the first time since 1987 that the Queen will spend Christmas at Windsor rather than Sandringham.

Take a look at some of the incredible decorations below.
