Cameron Diaz Is Returning To Our Screens, And She’s Got One Actor To Thank

All hail the queen.

Cameron Diaz is a name that everybody knows. She gave us Fiona in Shrek, Amanda Woods in The Holiday and Natalie Cook in Charlie’s Angels — and that doesn’t even scratch the surface of her most iconic roles

Back in 2014, Diaz stopped acting entirely and by 2018 she had confirmed her retirement from the entertainment biz. Understandably, people were pretty upset. The woman is like human sunshine, so not having her on our screens felt like a big loss. After launching her own organic wine company in 2020 and welcoming her daughter Raddix in 2019, we’d all but given up on the actress’ return to film… until now.

Yes, the rumours are indeed true. Cameron Diaz is returning to acting, starring alongside Jamie Foxx in a Netflix action comedy titled, Back In Action.

Foxx made the blessed announcement via Twitter, by leaking a recorded phone conversation between himself, Diaz and NFL legend Tom Brady.

Why? Because, as Brady himself put it, he’s “relatively successful at un-retiring.” Earlier this year, the sports star announced his retirement before going back on the decision within just 41 days.

Unbeknown to Diaz, Foxx was recording the entire conversation, before posting it on Twitter to officially announce her un-retirement to the world.

As fate would have it, Diaz’ last onscreen role was actually with Foxx, co-starring together in the 2014 reimagining of Annie, where Diaz played the twisted Miss Hannigan and Foxx played Daddy Warbucks.

The news of her comeback is a shock to fans, with the actress having never shown much interest in returning to the screen.

Appearing on SiriusXM’s Quarantined with Bruce in February 2021, Diaz still seemed unsure about a potential return to acting, explaining that motherhood had really changed her priorities.

“Will I ever make a movie again? I’m not looking to, but will I? I don’t know. I have no idea,” Diaz told Bruce.

“Maybe, never say never, but I couldn’t imagine being a mum now where I’m at as a mother with my child at her first year to have to be on a movie set that takes 14 hours, 16 hours of my day away from my child.”

Well, she was right to never say never, because the time has officially come to dust off her shoes and get back out there.

Per Deadline, the upcoming action-comedy movie was written by Seth Gordon (The Lost City) and Brendan O’Brien, who wrote Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates and Neighbors).

Production is slated to start later this year.
