Camila Morrone Responds To Leonardo DiCaprio Being Dubbed Her “Instagram Boyfriend”

Yes, she's seen the memes

Leonardo DiCaprio has been quietly dating actress Camila Morrone for going on two years now, with the private pair opting out of joint red carpet appearances, interviews about their relationship or posting anything about each other on social media. But just because you can’t see Leo on Camila’s Instagram, it doesn’t mean he’s not there.

Earlier this year, the couple went viral after a photo was released showing Leo in the ultimate Instagram Boyfriend pose, patiently holding an iPhone (horizontally, might we add) while Camila stood on her tip toes with her arms outstretched and threw her head back for the photo.

And it appears even Camila saw all of the jokes about her Oscar-winning boyfriend. “I saw the meme: You either die a hero or you live long enough to become an Instagram boyfriend,” she told Vanity Fair, before adding: “Poor thing, he’s being called an Instagram boyfriend,” she added, before joking, “He’s an environmentalist and a movie star and it doesn’t mean a thing!”

Elsewhere in the interview which was focused around her upcoming movie, Mickey and the Bear, Camila touched on the backlash she received upon posting images of Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart to Instagram, something many took as rebuttal to those criticising her and Leo’s age gap (they have a 22-year age gap while Bacall and Bogart had a 25-year age gap).

“I’ve been starting to show my sense of humour more,” she said. “People will always have awful things to say because there’s a sense of entitlement and safety behind the screen, but trust me, you don’t need to be that angry.”

At the time of the post, Camila took to Instagram Stories to address the hate, saying: “Good morning people and happy Friday. I just read some of the comments on my Instagram and…my God, people are so mean and full of anger with people that they know nothing about.”

If the rumours are to believed, perhaps it won’t be too long before Leo is upgraded from Instagram Boyfriend to Instagram Husband.
