Current marie claire cover star Carrie Bickmore broke down in tears on last night’s episode of The Project after a young guest admitted to having thoughts of suicide and self-harm.
12-year-old Cameron Schubert who suffers from Tourette’s Syndrome bravely shared his story in the hopes that more people would gain an understanding of the condition that affects one per cent of children.
“I have thought a lot of suicidal thoughts,” he shared.
“I’d just like to say I hope whoever’s watching this will [take] this chance to understand that if you see someone in public swearing or body movements or sounds, just leave them, because there’s a really high possibility that they could have Tourette’s,” Cameron said.
Carrie was visibly moved by Cameron’s story, wiping away the tears she praised him for speaking out.
“Sorry, I hate seeing any kid have to struggle through anything, but he’s so freaking remarkable and so eloquent,” she said.
“To just feel like there are days when he questions his place on the planet, because of the way people respond.
“We shouldn’t be in a world where we have to say if you see us don’t do this, if you see us don’t do that — like who are we as humans that we have those reactions?”
