Chanel’s Mademoiselle Privé Heads To Tokyo

Hear from Sofia Coppola and Pharrell Williams ahead of the renowned art exhibition

The fifth iteration of Mademoiselle Privé, an immersive exhibition dedicated to the three creative houses of Chanel, is about to open in Tokyo for a six-week stint. The travelling exhibition has already been to London, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Seoul – and while the Fashion House’s intent remains the same, the design changes each time.

This fifth chapter of Mademoiselle Privé will offer a dreamlike immersion into the very sources of Chanel’s creation, a sensory and intimate adventure that blends the creative processes with an inimitable savoir-faire and an absolute sense of luxury.

The experience will be housed at the B&C Hall in Shinagawa, Tokyo, with the post-industrial warehouse providing the perfect backdrop to the house’s ever-evolving vision.  In the exhibition, guests will be able to walk through three distinct areas that show off the house’s history as a couturier, perfumer, and jewellery maker.

Director Sofia Coppola, who has started an artistic collaboration with Chanel alongside Artistic Director of Fashion collections Virginie Viard, pays homage to Gabrielle Chanel ahead of the upcoming Mademoiselle Privé exhibition. The story of Sofia Coppola and Chanel began when Karl Lagerfeld offered her an internship working alongside him in the Creation Studio. From this fashion experience, the teenage Sofia Coppola held on to the youthful allure the designer had imbued into the fashion house and has been a regular guest at the shows ever since.

House ambassador Pharrell Williams was also interviewed ahead of the Mademoiselle Privé exhibition, inside Gabrielle Chanel’s Paris apartment. The musician talks about how the apartment reflects Mademoiselle’s personality and convictions: “If she’s made a decision on all the things that are in here, her choices are still in this room, her energy is still in the room.”
