What Makes A Celebrity?

As CHANEL celebrates their iconic N°5 fragrance, the house reflects in their new film, ‘Celebrity By’.

Behind the flashing cameras, rush of excitement and glamour of celebrity, it’s their charm that shapes our connection to stars of screen, stage and literature.  It’s for this reason that for N°5’s 100th anniversary, CHANEL respects their icon of empowerment, femininity and luxury with a dedicated film.

In a new film released tonight, faces, friends and muses of CHANEL reflect on the Eau de Parfum’s heritage and the cultural forces that have shaped it into the cross-generational celebrity it is today.

Led by French actress and the face of CHANEL’s N°5 100th anniversary campaign, Marion Cotillard speaks from her experiences in the public eye on the power of celebrity and on her responsibility to use her voice as a force for good.

Joined by ballet dancer and choreographer Marie-Agnès Gillot, dancer Lil Buck and psychologist Laurie Santos, the panel also reflects on the prominence of celebrities as taste-makers and how society is fascinated with their prominence, as we seek inspiration from their craft and emulate their aesthetic. Bringing the conversation to a personal level, Chinese fashion media figure Hung Huang and former editor of Vanity Fair, Graydon Carter, also reflect on how the contemporary media and celebrity landscape shapes popular culture, fashion and icons.

Airing at 9pm AEST tonight Friday 21 May 2021, CHANEL’s homage to N°5, Celebrity By, and video vignettes of the contributors are streaming on CHANEL.com and @chanelofficial
