Charlotte Casiraghi, Grace Kelly’s Granddaughter, Named Chanel’s Newest Brand Ambassador

The chic royal makes the perfect candidate

While Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are often touted as the world’s most stylish royals, Charlotte Casiraghi of MonacoGrace Kelly’s granddaughter—can’t be overlooked on the fashion front. The 34-year-old oozes French sophistication in whatever she dons. From the iconic Chanel jumpsuit at her 2019 wedding to Dimitri Rassam to head-to-toe Saint Laurent on the red carpet, the royal never misses a beat.

Her sartorial past makes it no surprise Chanel has named Casiraghi as their newest ambassador and spokesperson. The Monégasque royal’s new role was announced on the fashion house’s official Instagram page, where Casiraghi explained what the new role means to her, and her personal connection to the luxury house—after all, her mother Princess Caroline is a Chanel devotee, having shared a decades-long friendship with late designer Karl Lagerfeld.

“It’s almost as if I was born with Chanel,” she says. “I think of photos of my mum, when she was pregnant with me. Wonderful photos by Karl Lagerfeld, with her wearing Chanel.”

Casiraghi shot Chanel’s Spring-Summer 2021 campaign in La Vigie, Lagerfeld’s onetime Monaco residence, sharing it was a particularly emotional experience.  “I got very emotional doing it at La Vigie,” she said, adding that the home was “full of history for me, as it’s Karl’s old house.”

Along with starring in the new campaign, the royal will also inaugurate a series of talks with celebrated female writers, titled “Literary Rendezvous at Rue Cambon.” Casiraghi has a personal passion for literature and feminism—two things that she says Chanel values as well. “Gabrielle Chanel used to receive a lot of writers and artists,” she says.

Through these talks, Casiraghi hopes to demonstrate fashion’s ability to “move the culture forwards.”
