Charlotte Riley Cast As Duchess Catherine In New TV Drama

'It is a challenge I am really looking forward to'

Hot off the success of The Crown, there’s a new royal drama coming to TV called King Charles III and the actress set to play The Duchess of Cambridge has been revealed as Charlotte Riley.

The British actress, best known for her role in Peaky Blinders, landed the coveted role as Kate in the TV adaptation of the award-winning play.

The play is set in the future and imagines Prince Charles’ accession to the throne following Queen Elizabeth’s death.

“It’s such a unique project,” Riley tells the BBC. “To be both modern and rich in verse and to play someone who is real but yet totally re-imagined for this story is an exciting prospect for an actor.”

“Kate Middleton is a really interesting woman, particularly within the context of this play, and it is a challenge I am really looking forward to.”

Other cast members from the stage version will go on to star in the television adaptation including Oliver Chris as William, Richard Goulding as Harry and Margot Leicester as Camilla.

If anything falls through with Oliver ÇHirs, Riley’s husband Tom Hardy could always step in to play the handsome prince…
