Chris Hemsworth Recounts The Moment Elsa Pataky Saved His Life

His wife came to the rescue in the Himalayas

Although he’s a superhero on screen, Chris Hemsworth required a little saving of his own on a recent trek through the the Himalayas.

Hemsworth’s savior? His wife Elsa Pataky.

In an interview with news.com.au, the Thor actor explained that Pataky had come to his rescue while he was suffering severe altitude sickness on a three-day hike of the Himalayan mountains.

Hemsworth’s body was struggling to acclimatise when he reached a few thousand metres above sea level.

“I started becoming really short of breath, I had fluid in my lungs and I was trying to ignore it. I was going to sleep and my wife listened to me breathe, she could hear it in my chest, and said, ‘I think something is wrong.’ I was like, ‘I am fine, I am fine, just go to sleep,” he recounted.

But Pataky insisted something was not right and found help.

“She got up and told the guard we were with and he came in and looked at me and said, ‘Oh God. We have got to get you off the mountain,” Hemsworth said.

The actor was administered oxygen and an injection and was driven back down the mountain.

“Apparently, if I was up there for another few hours, it could have gone drastically bad,” he explained.

“I am lucky my wife was there to slap some sense into me,” Hemsworth added.

“She was the hero. I was in distress, I needed to be saved.”

Hemsworth and Pataky tied the knot in 2010 and have three children, India Rose, 5, and twin boys Tristan and Sasha, both 3-years-old.
