In a new interview with Glamour UK, the model, who is mum to daughter Luna (three) and son Miles (one), spoke candidly about the everyday challenges that come hand-in-hand with the mental illness.

“I’ll tell John, ‘Deep down, I know I am happy,'” Teigen said. “But I think anyone with anxiety knows it’s physically painful to think about doing things.”

“Sometimes reaching for your medication is like picking up a 60kg dumbbell that I don’t feel like picking up and I don’t know why,” she added.

Later in the interview, the 34-year-old went on to admit that she is having to build her strength up after struggling to take her medication on time.

“I wasn’t managing my pills. I was just taking them when I remembered,” Teigen told the publication. “My chemistry got thrown off. So I’m building myself back up.”

“There are times I go to bed at 6.30pm and wake up at 6am and lie in bed just thinking – it’s like you can’t get enough sleep.”

The mother-of-two was first diagnosed with postnatal depression three months after giving birth to her first child, a time in which she describes as “a sad existence”.

But understanding the condition meant that she knew what to expect when pregnant with Miles.

“When you are in it, you don’t realise what life is like outside the hole and so I wasn’t worried [with Miles] because we solved it,” she said.

Though it’s not the first time Teigen has helped mothers across the world by detailing the realities of motherhood.

Shortly after giving birth to Miles, she shared a refreshingly honest clip of her stretch marks on Twitter alongside the caption: Mum bod alert!”

Further drilling home the positive message, Teigen later tweeted: “Instagram is crazy. I think it’s awesome people have killer bodies and are proud to show them off (I really do!) but I know how hard it can be to forget what (for lack of a better word) regular ol’ bodies look like when everyone looks bonkers amazing.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
