Cindy Crawford And Kaia Gerber Just Channeled Studio 54 Realness On The Red Carpet

Putting us in the disco mood.

Although they could be mistaken for siblings, the supermodel mother-daughter duo that is Cindy Crawford and Kaia Gerber are making a case for the return of disco dressing.

Taking to the red carpet of the 2021 InStyle Awards, Crawford and Gerber both stepped out in flowing maxi dresses reminiscent of those spotted on the dance floor of Studio 54.

This coveted 70s style silhouette is a departure from the pair’s typical Malibu boho-chic (read: dark denim, timeless black boots, oversized frames and a ‘less is more’ je ne sais quoi).

Crawford opted for a classic Missoni psychedelic-stripped number from the brands Spring/Summer 2022 collection, which debuted at Milan Fashion Week, whilst Gerber went for a slightly more retro flapper style from Alexander McQueen’s lauded Spring/Summer 2022 collection ‘London Skies’. Bringing the roaring 20s to the 2020s.

Gerber’s dress was adorned with fringe (certainly a designer favourite this season) pairing the look with a matching purse and oh-so-hippie curtain bangs. The figure hugging numbers highlighting their enviable hourglass supermodel bodies.

While this style definitely isn’t new by any means, it’s without a doubt having a resurgence, cropping up on the international runways of fashion weeks at all four of our fashion capitals.

Taking to Milan‘s Spring/Summer 2022 Fashion Week in October, the inimitable Kim Jones was inspired by the queens of the discotheque for his sophomore presentation with Fendi.

Might maxi dresses and breezy caftans that could be mistaken as those worn by Grace Jones, Jerry Hall and Bianca Jagger sauntered down the runway.

A week later at Paris Fashion Week, Christian Dior and Saint Laurent showcased the best of beatnik chic, bodysuits and club kid counter-culture couture.

The disco ball is a siren, calling our names and we’re willing and ready. In the words of David Bowie, let’s dance.
