Claire Foy and her husband, British actor Stephen Campbell Moore, keep their lives out of the public eye, but now the couple has spoken out about their terrifying health scare they endured while Foy filmed season two of The Crown.
Campbell Moore was diagnosed with a benign tumour on his pituitary gland, at the base of his brain, The Sun reports, in 2016. The 38-year-old underwent surgery while his wife was in the middle of filming.
“You realise you’re not the most important person in that process, and everybody who loves you goes through far worse,” Campbell Moore says of the experience. “There are certain things that you make sure you’ve done before you go into surgery. You write a letter. But it’s all very much on the off chance that something did go wrong, because every part of you is saying that nothing will. Waking up and being told the operation had gone well was understandably a huge relief.”
He and Foy, 33, welcomed a daughter into the world in February 2015. They met on the set of Season of the Witch in 2011, and married in 2014.
Foy has also opened up about her own health issues, revealing she was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis that put an end to her dreams of becoming a professional ballet dancer, and had a benign tumour removed from her eye at the age of 17.
“It was horrible and debilitating, but it made me realise that I needed to grab the life I wanted,” she says. “If that hadn’t happened, I don’t know if I would have been brave enough to throw my cards on the table and say I wanted to study drama…. I’m quite lucky to have a face. I was a bit like Cyclops and it was all a bit scary. I was on steroids for about a year and a half afterwards that makes you put on a lot of weight and have really bad skin.”
