In Search Of The Perfect Pair Of Clogs

Clogs have returned, but its not a fashion first for the wooden slip-on

The clog, once regarded as the uniform of farm and factory workers during the Revolution, has begun its resurgence thanks to the likes of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Dakota Johnson, Kate Moss and a string of other fashion elite.

Little did we know how influential Marilyn Monroe’s 1956 ‘Peasant Sitting’ shoot with famed photographer Milton Greene would be. The icon was pictured in a pair of black clogs, that would later become a fashion must-have. The clog would go on to inspire a wholesome kind of cool in the Seventies, with free-thinking reigning supreme and the style quickly sealed a stamp of approval in the fashion world globally.

By the nineties, the clog had become a grunge staple. Alexa Chung went on to wear the style on her debut Vogue cover in 2010 sparking a new resurgence and the same year Louis Vuitton would release their now iconic shaggy tasselled clogs, which are now hunted down by fashion revivalists. Now, the clogs are back – being seen on the feet of street style stars and celebs alike.
