A Melbourne-based Coles store has insisted that it is safe for customers to still shop there after two of the branch’s workers tested positive for Coronavirus.

The duo in question were employed at a Mulgrave store which has since undergone extensive cleaning.
Meanwhile, any staff members who have been in contact with the infected workers have been instructed to self-isolate for two weeks.
According to a Coles spokesperson, the store can remain open as customers have a low risk of transmission.
“The Victorian Department of Health yesterday reconfirmed that Coles has undertaken all necessary safety measures in stores where positive cases have been identified,” the spokesperson announced.
“Health authorities have not instructed Coles that it is necessary to close any stores, including in cases where team members or customers are diagnosed with COVID-19.”
In order to further safeguard shoppers, the supermarket chain will reinforce the importance of hygiene practices with staff ensuring that all team members have access to hand sanitisers while extensive cleaning in communal areas will continue to take place.
“The safety of our customers and team members is our most important focus and we continue to work closely with the Department of Health to review our safety arrangements for store team members in line with their recommendations,” the spokesperson ensured.
“Victorians can be reassured that our actions are aimed at containing the spread of this virus.”
Currently, Coles is also asking customers to bag their own goods in keeping with the government’s social distancing measures.
In the midst of the crisis, other supermarket chains across Australia have introduced a number of safety measures.
For instance, Woolworths is also practicing social distancing while plexiglass screens have been implemented at checkouts to help protect both staff and customers.
