Johnson’s struggle with COVID-19 shows how “indiscriminate” the virus is and how seriously it should be taken, Professor Linda Bauld, Bruce and John Usher Chair in Public Health at the Usher Institute, University of Edinburgh told The Guardian.

“Anyone anywhere, including the most privileged in our society, can be affected and can become seriously ill. It is imperative now, more than ever that the rest of us comply with government guidelines to stay at home and not put others at risk,” said Bauld.

Johnson became the first world leader to test positive for COVID-19 coronavirus in late March. After developing mild symptoms, the 55-year-old was tested inside Downing Street by National Health Service staff on the advice of the country’s chief medical officer.

“I am working from home, I’m self-isolating, and that’s entirely the right thing to do. But be in no doubt that I can continue to communicate with all my top team and lead the national fightback against coronavirus,” said Johnson in a Twitter video.

Johnson’s diagnosis follows the shocking news Prince Charles has also tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirusHis wife, Camilla Parker Bowles the Duchess of Cornwall, has also been tested but does not have the virus.
