Fiona Xie plays the hilarious, attention-seeking, social-ladder-climbing Kitty Pong in Crazy Rich Asians. When she’s not making a scene at the wedding of the century at Gardens by the Bay, you’ll find the Singapore-local chowing down on chicken rice and pepper crabs at the Hawker Centres in town. Here’s Fiona Xie’s guide to Singapore…

Top shopping spots

I’ve always loved fashion. Every fashion junkee can get their fix at Club 21, Surrender and Dover Street Market.

Secret haunts

I get my daily morning coffee at my local House of AnLi café. It’s casual and reminds me of that little bit of Australian cool.

Another favourite haunt is the National Gallery Singapore, which is beautifully restored and links classical colonial buildings, the former Supreme Court and City Hall.

It’s a feast for the senses as a gallery with Southeast Asia’s biggest art collection.

It also houses amazing restaurants like National Kitchen by Violet Oon. The best way to delve into our culturally exciting mix of Peranakan, Chinese, Indian and Malay flavoured dishes. Delectable in a homely way.

The best cocktail in town

The ones shaken not stirred by Kitty Pong. Haha! I do like to host private soirées in our lovely garden city.

When I’m not hosting at my house, you’ll find me checking out the gummy bear menu at Tippling Club, before crossing the road for a good boogie at Club Kilo.

Of course, Dempsey is also a fun place to check out and you can redeem your sins all week instead of just sacrilegious Sundays at the historically restored chapel the White Rabbit.

Or if you’re shopping in Orchard and need a secret quick fix. Try to spot “The Other Room” a little secret haunt with no signboard. Ring the secret doorbell to be allowed into this little haven.

Tanjong Beach Club on Sundays is perfect for an amazing beach experience.

1880 is a members-only bar that will make you want to live in Singapore. Gorgeous interiors and an even better craft team. Don’t tell anyone this secret.

The most over the top lavish experience

Filming Crazy Rich Asians at Gardens by the Bay, the wedding of the century! Everyone needs to visit this at least once in their lifetime to take in the entire light show experience and to feel like you were part of the movie.

Packing essentials

An adventurous spirit and a hell of an amazing attitude. You’re set! Everything else, you can buy.

Singapore shopping lust list

A beautiful apartment – stay forever! Otherwise, Singapore has something for everyone at any price point. Low and high.

The best dinner in town

Chicken rice, pepper crabs and a dose of variety at all the hawker centres in town. Newton Food Centre was featured in the film but one can experience all the neighbourhood hawker places all around Singapore and try all sorts of goodness.
