In some tragic 2020 news, actress Dame Diana Rigg has passed away at the age of 82, peacefully at her home after battling cancer.
Rigg, who notable played our favourite assassin Lady Olenna Tyrell (the woman responsible for poisoning King Joffrey) in Game Of Thrones, leaves behind an epic legacy.
Many will know her from the 1960s show The Avengers or the James Bond film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, where she Countess Teresa di Vicenzo who weds 007.
Rigg’s daughter, Rachel Stirling, shared a statement.
“My beloved ma died peacefully in her sleep early this morning, at home, surrounded by family,” she wrote.
“She died of cancer diagnosed in March, and spent her last months joyfully reflecting on her extraordinary life, full of love, laughter and a deep pride in her profession. I will miss her beyond words”.
Rigg has had a very successful career as screen actress and won an Emmy in 1997 for her role in the TV adaption of Rebecca. She also had a prolific theatre career, and was even nominated for a Tony award for her role as Mrs Higgins in My Fair Lady on Broadway in 2018.
The Dame’s latest roll was in the TV series remake of All Creatures Great And Small, which only began airing in UK just last week.
The actress also famously authored the 1982 book No Turn Unstoned, which was a collection of “the worst theatrical reviews in history”, as compiled by Rigg.
