Calling all fashion lovers! The 1st of March marks the beginning of the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival – Australia’s biggest fashion event. Part of the 10 days of fashion and entertainment is the highly anticipated 2019 Virgin Australia Grand Showcase, presented by marie claire.
The night is set to be a highlight of VAMFF, featuring a solo presentation celebrating the extraordinary talents of one of Australia’s most successful designers, Carla Zampatti. Her globally recognised career spans over five decades, and this will be a spectacular showing of Zampatti’s latest collection. The Grand Showcase will also feature a special musical performance by Dami Im.
Zampatti and Im are two of Australia’s most successful women in their fields, making their collaboration a match made in heaven. Ahead of the Showcase, happening on March 6, marie claire caught up with Dami about the exciting event.
You’re performing at the Virgin Australia Grand Showcase, presented by marie claire, to celebrate Carla Zampatti. What does that collaboration mean to you?
Carla has been one of my favourite designers to wear throughout my performing career. She symbolizes a woman with strength and elegance and to collaborate with her on such a special showcase is an absolute honour and a highlight for me!
Do you have a favourite Carla Zampatti moment?
I still can’t forget the very first Carla Zampatti red-carpet look I got to wear to the ARIA’s. It was a silky white panelled dress with an electric blue faux-fur jacket and it was the coolest red-carpet gown I could have dreamed of.
Yourself and Carla Zampatti are both household names for marie claire readers. Does this collaboration feel like the perfect match?
Working on this project has been challenging but also a lot of fun as we are trying to bring two different worlds – fashion and music – together into one show. I love this challenge because it’s opened me up to different ideas and sounds which I wouldn’t normally go for in my own shows.
You’re known for your amazing, and often ground-breaking fashion choices, how do you continue to evolve your style?
I enjoy looking at photos of what people are doing and trying new things that grab my attention. As I get older I feel more comfortable going for bolder styles because I know what works and doesn’t work for me.
