Dior Opens Paris Fashion Week With A Stunning Dance Performance

See every incredible moment

When you’re kicking off the most highly-anticipated week of fashion month, it pays to think outside of the box. And for spring/summer 2019, Dior‘s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri did exactly that, enlisting professional dancers to open their Paris Fashion Week show with an incredible theatrical routine.

Choreographed by Israeli choreographer Sharon Eyal, the modern dancers weaved in between models as they debuted the French fashion house’s latest offerings.

Prior to the show, Dior revealed it took two weeks and 60 people to build the showspace at the ParisLongchamp Racecourse. The venue entrance was covered in enlarged quotes that inspired Chiuri’s vision for the collection.

“I’m not interested in how people move, I’m interested in what makes them move,” a quote by German dancer Pina Bausch read, while another quote by Isadora Duncan read, “Dance is the movement of the universe concentrated in an individual.”

“Maria Grazia Chiuri drew inspiration from the works of a series of artists who shook up established codes in order to develop another idea of the beauty of the body in motion in a new relationship with space, time and nature,” Dior said in a statement following show.

As far as the fashion goes, ethereal dresses which have become a signature style of Chiuri’s collections were prominent, as were tie-dye dresses (yes, tie-dye is on trend) and ’90s cargo pants (also, very on trend).
