In a statement given to to PEOPLE , Barton confirms that she has been released from the hospital — and reveals that someone gave her GHB while she was drinking.

“On the evening of the 25th, I went out with a group of friends to celebrate my birthday. While having drinks, I realised that something was not right as my behaviour was becoming erratic and continued to intensify over the next several hours,” Barton said in the statement.

“I voluntarily went to get professional help, and I was informed by their staff that I had been given GHB. After an overnight stay, I am home and doing well,” the statement continued. “I would like to extend a big thanks of gratitude to the professionals at Cedars-Sinai for their great care and professionalism.”

Barton also made it clear in her statement that she encourages women to learn from her personal experience.”This is a lesson to all young women out there, be aware of your surroundings.”

GHB is a depressant that is usually placed in alcoholic beverages and is also commonly known as a “date rape drug.”

Barton voluntarily agreed to go to hospital after neighbours and a friend had become concerned with her odd behaviour, according to TMZ.

An official statement was been made by a L.A. County Sheriff’s Department spokesman, who confirmed that Barton had been voluntarily taken to hospital after officers responded to a disturbance call.
