This year’s ceremony is the first sustainable affair to date, as attendees were encouraged to re-wear something from their wardrobe or rent ensembles for the red carpet.

Setting a royal example, the Duchess of Cambridge followed the rule book and dug into her Alexander McQueen archive for a look she first wore back in 2012.

Buckingham Palace followers will recognise the mother-of-three’s cream and gold gown from the couple’s Diamond Jubilee Tour of Malaysia.

Creative director Sarah Burton was commissioned by the royal to create the bespoke look for a dinner with the King and Queen of the nation.

Bringing the look into the new decade, she accessorised the ensemble with a pair of sparkly Jimmy Choo ‘Romy’ pumps and a matching clutch bag.

A pair of Van Cleef & Arpel drop earrings were all that was needed to finish the headline-worthy look.

Of course, the royal’s legion of fashion followers will not be surprised by her McQueen choice.

Last year, the Duchess of Cambridge reigned the red carpet in a sweeping one-shoulder gown by the British fashion house.

Proving she has always been a thrifty dresser, the 38-year-old chose a pair of pearl earrings, which once belonged to Princess Diana, to complete the look.
