In a bid to clarify rumours that the company was left “fuming” by the royal couple’s decision to leave the UK, artistic director, Rufus Norris, has opened up about her involvement with the world-famous theatre.

“There has been no indication at all from her that her engagement with us would be anything other than business as usual,” Norris told The Telegraph. “She is still very engaged, the conversations are regular and ongoing, there are ideas we are exploring.”

“She has star reach, she understands the nature of what we’re trying to do. She has been interested in the learning work, the work in communities, the work around the country,” he continued.

“She’s less interested in coming here and going to a string of press nights. It’s a really in-depth engagement with the range of work we do.”

The former Suits star was made a patron of the National Theatre back in January 2019 alongside honorary roles at Smart Works and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

But since announcing their decision to step down as working royals, how the couple will become financially independent has been widely speculated about.

Yesterday, it was announced that Harry and Meghan’s final engagement will take place on March 31 with plans for the duo to attend the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey in London.

The new parents will then split their time between the UK and North America.

It is also widely believed that the couple will no longer use the ‘Sussex Royal’ brand strategy on both their website and Instagram page due to their decision to step back.
