In a cover story for New York Magazine, Carroll alleges Trump came into the upmarket department store where she was shopping and flagged her over to help him pick a gift for a woman. She says they had met once before and that Trump recognised her as "that advice lady."
Trump allegedly suggested lingerie and joked that Carroll should try on the set he had picked out. She says she retorted that he should try it, before Trump pulls her towards the dressing room. "This is gonna be hilarious, I’m saying to myself — and as I write this, I am staggered by my stupidity," she writes.
Carroll writes that the moment the dressing-room door is closed, Trump "lunges at me, pushes me against the wall, hitting my head quite badly, and puts his mouth against my lips."
"I am so shocked I shove him back and start laughing again. He seizes both my arms and pushes me up against the wall a second time, and, as I become aware of how large he is, he holds me against the wall with his shoulder and jams his hand under my coat dress and pulls down my tights."
She continues, "The next moment, still wearing correct business attire, shirt, tie, suit jacket, overcoat, he opens the overcoat, unzips his pants, and, forcing his fingers around my private area, thrusts his penis halfway — or completely, I’m not certain — inside me."
Carroll says that after a "colossal struggle" she manages to get her knee high enough to push Trump off and run out of the changing room and straight out onto 5th Avenue. She says the incident lasted no longer than three minutes and that afterwards she tells two friends what happened - both of whom have confirmed her account to New York Magazine.
Carroll writes that the coatdress she was wearing when the incident occured had been hanging on the back of her door, undrycleaned and unworn since that day. For her interview, she wore the outfit again for the first time in 23 years.
In response to the allegations, the Oval Office issued a statement to the NY Post, which reads, "This is a completely false and unrealistic story surfacing 25 years after allegedly taking place and was created simply to make the President look bad."
