Gliding down the red green carpet for the Peter Rabbit premiere in Sydney, Elizabeth Debicki is definitely on theme in a brilliant yellow Erdem design that matches the many sunflowers out in force.

Speaking to marie claire before the film on Saturday, the 27-year-old Australian star says the opportunity to bring the works of Beatrix Potter to life was a real thrill.

“I grew up with Beatrix Potter, I used to be read it by mother when I was a kid,” she reveals.

In the charming animation, Debicki voices rabbit Mopsy, the eldest of three triplets. And while actors are known for their epic transformations, the role of Mopsy was not much of a stretch for The Night Manager star, who has a younger sister and brother.

“It comes very naturally to me to be super bossy and to really believe in hierarchy,” she jokes. “All my bossing was mostly well-intentioned, usually things like, ‘Clean your room, eat your dinner, do your homework… give me the front seat of the car.’”

The film follows the adventures of rogue rabbit Peter (James Corden) and his siblings, voiced by Debicki, Margot Robbie and Daisy Ridley. During the whirlwind press tour of Sydney, Debicki and Robbie have become better friends, although there have been no wild drinking nights together. Yet

“I wish—we’re so boring! No, alas. That sounds like it would have been fun, maybe next week,” Debicki says. “We have been able to bond, she’s a love.”

But will the pair remain friends after the press tour ends?

“I hope so—look at her over there!” Debicki gushes, pointing at Robbie taking selfies with fans. “She’s such a sweetheart.”

After Peter Rabbit, Debicki is set to star in a heist thriller from Steve McQueen (the genius behind Shame and 12 Years A Slave), and will play writer Virginia Woolf in the romance drama Vita and Virginia. As for who the actress would love to work with next, Debicki has some excellent suggestions.

“My favourite actor of all time at the moment is Sarah Paulson, I think she is the most remarkable woman and I’d like to just be around her. I’d happily just be on her set and bring her coffee,” she says.

“And director-wise, I would love to work with.. let’s see, why don’t we go Paul Thomas Anderson? Let’s give him a call.”

PTA, your move.
