This Is Where Elizabeth Holmes, The Woman Behind ‘The Dropout’, Is Now

She has just received sentencing for her defrauding investors.

Elizabeth Holmes’ face outside the California federal court was splashed across every news site in 2021—the testimonies and revelations to come from the wire fraud trial encompassing her now-defunct company, Theranos, were almost unbelievable.

But these days, Holmes is no where to be seen. Following a hefty 15-week trial, Holmes was found guilty of on one count of conspiracy and three counts of wire fraud in January 2022.

The decision came from a jury convinced beyond reasonable doubt that her company, which promised a revolutionary technology that could detect illness and disease at an early stage, had deliberately misled customers, subsequently resulting in multiple incorrect medical diagnosis.

The story of Holmes and Theranos itself was shocking enough, hence the global interest in her trial—but it was a podcast, subsequent documentary and then an entire television series that’s renewed the focus on the turtle-neck-wearing disgraced CEO.

If you’ve started watching The Dropout on Disney+, you’ll no doubt be just as hooked and intrigued to learn more about Holmes as we are. And while we know what happened to her company (defunct) and the result of the trial (guilty), what we didn’t know much about is where she would end up…until now.

Here, what the Theranos founder is up to as she receives her sentencing.

Where is Elizabeth Holmes now?

After being found guilty in January 2022, Elizabeth Holmes was set free on a $500,000 bond to await her sentencing.

Multiple reports claim Holmes is currently residing in a US$135 million estate in Silicon Valley, California. She lives with her husband, Billy Evans, whom she married in secret in 2019. In 2021, they welcomed a baby son together.

Per the New York Post, Holmes met Evans, a hotel heir, in July 2017 at a party, shortly before Holmes was charged with defrauding Theranos investors in 2018.

According to The Post, Evans is completely smitten with Holmes, even going so far as to give her one of his most prized possessions.

“[Evans] gave her his MIT signet ring. Billy and the MIT ring, they are inseparable. He always wore it on his pinky finger,” a source claimed.

“He could snap his fingers and have a triple-A diamond engagement ring instantly if he wanted to. But if you give her some extravagant ring, it could end up owned by the feds if she has to give up her material possessions.”

Will Elizabeth Holmes go to prison?

Yes. Holmes has been sentenced to 11 years and three months in prison, with the judge revealing that Holmes must wait until April 27, 2023 to turn herself in to custody. Found guilty on four counts of defrauding investors, she also faces three years of supervision upon her release, as well as a fine of $100 per each count of fraud.

Holmes sobbed while receiving her sentence, telling the courts: “I regret my failings with every cell of my body.”

She is currently pregnant with her second child, though it is unclear how far along she is and whether or not she will have to give birth in prison.

Her attorney, Kevin Downey, indicated she would appeal the sentence.
