Struggling with acne as an adult can feel incredibly isolating especially when it seems like we're surrounded by flawless faces – from our friends to our Instagram feed. But today, two of those seemingly flawless faces have reminded us that so many people are privately battling their own skin demons.
"I tend to keep things bottled up because I know how blessed I am in many ways," Knowles wrote alongside a gallery of bare-faced selfies. "But SKIN does get to me."
The 26-year-old says that her battle with acne has been "ongoing and constant" involving two rounds of strong medication and a range of other treatments.
"While it may not look pretty, it’s real," she continued. "I’m accepting it more and more, but would love to knock them out of the park."
Gibbs followed suit, sharing images of her skin issues related to an auto immune condition.
"I learnt how easy it was for people to be like 'love the skin you're in' when you don't even want to see loved ones or leave the house," she wrote on her Instagram Stories.
"Yes, love the skin you're in but sometimes it's really f****** hard!"
The Sports Illustrated star says that as a model, her face is her job and battling chronic breakouts has shaken her self confidence.
"I can truly say I've never struggled more with self love than I have in these last few months," she says.
But Gibbs says it's been an important reminder to love herself beyond her appearance and encouraged her fans to do the same.
