Silvia Venturini Fendi’s Final Womenswear Show Was A Tribute To Family

"Time spent with family, generations reunited at home in Rome, is a catalyst for quiet introspection"

The first real, live show of Milan’s Spring/Summer 2021 fashion week opened in its usual savoir fair, with Fendi showcasing a collection inspired by family, specifically the powerful females at the centre of the Italian fashion house, and reflections from home during the past several months in lockdown. Silvia Venturini Fendi–who took over the creative direction of womenswear following Karl Lagerfeld’s passing–presented the brand’s Spring 2021 line, a nod to Fendi’s past, fitting, considering Silvia is the granddaughter of its founders.

The Collection Was Silva Venturini Fendi’s Final Womenswear Collection For The Fashion House

The latest collection, titled Fendi Reflections, was Silvia Venturini Fendi’s final womenswear collection for the fashion house, before Kim Jones joins as the artistic director of womenswear.

It Was Inspired By The Art Of Staying At Home

The seemingly never-ending days of COVID-19 can feel monotonous, even as some begin to ease out of lockdown. But according to Fendi, there’s beauty to those quiet moments, spent observing the world from the intimate corners of the home. According to the show notes, it embodied “the gentle, nostalgic comforts of home”, which included pieces of lace handkerchiefs, quilting, and linen. The colour palette, consisting of neutral whites, browns, black, and sky blue mixed with bright reds, yellows and pinks, provided a “meditative breath of air among the sights that lie beyond the window panes.”

Silvia Offered Access Into The Home Of Fendi

The invitation to the Milan presentation featured a portfolio of family images, Silvia’s grandmother’s lemon pesto recipe and two packs of double-F logo pasta shapes by Rummo. “Time spent with family–generations reunited at home in Rome–is a catalyst for quiet introspection: at the window or in the garden, watching the world go by,” the show notes read. “From the inside looking out, and the outside looking in, shadows and reflections are cast across the collections.”

The Cast Featured Some Familiar Faces
