5 Vital Beauty Switches To Make This Winter

Keep your summer glow

Now that the temperature has officially plummeted, our skin is feeling the effects: tight, increasingly dry and terribly, terribly dull. But the solution can be surprisingly simple: switch up the skincare regimen you’ve been sticking to all year for the below season-specific products and your face will thank you for it.

1/ Cleanser

If you’ve been using a foaming cleanser, now’s the time to stop: even the gentlest foam formulations can dry out the skin once winter hits. Instead, try a cleansing milk, cream, oil or balm, depending on your skin type. Don’t baulk if your skin skews to the oily side – oil attracts oil, so this kind of cleanser can actually be extremely effective and, provided it’s non-comedogenic, won’t make you break out. We like Dermalogica Precleanse Balm and Chanel Creamy Cleansing Milk Comfort

2/ Moisturiser

Swap lightweight gel moisturisers for a thicker formulation to protect the skin against the elements. Creams hydrate more effectively than liquid formulas in winter, as they provide a superior barrier, keeping moisture locked in your skin. If your skin is particularly dry, it also pays to invest in a richer night cream to rebalance your skin while you sleep: we like the Sukin Purely Ageless Restorative Night Cream, a velvety formula with macadamia oil and cocoa butter that’s been proven to result in smoother skin in as little as two weeks.

3/ Facial oil

Now’s the time to consider adding an extra step to your skincare regime: facial oil. Pat on 1-2 drops before your moisturiser or night cream for added radiance and suppleness – the Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Facial Oil gets glowing reviews online, but we also love rosehip, jojoba and argan.

4/ Makeup

Don’t just rely on skincare to see you through the harsh winter months – choose makeup that works equally hard. We love the new COVERGIRL Vitalist range, which is infused with skin-saving vitamins. Switch to the Vitalist Healthy Concealer in winter for a boost of vitamin E, B3 and B5, which will help fight free radical damage, restore skin’s glow and protect against the elements – all while providing creamy coverage where you need it.

5/ Mask

In need of a quick fix? Pop on a hydrating, nourishing face mask – and remember to use weekly to really reap the benefits. If you’re dry around the eyes, follow suit with a specialised eye mask: try pairing the new Clarins SOS Comfort Nourishing Balm Mask on the face with the Equal Beauty Moisture Eye Veil for much-needed moisture.
