Tony Abbott’s Daughter Just Spoke Out About The Same-Sex Marriage Vote

"You can't help who you fall in love with"

Tony Abbott’s daughter Frances has just spoken out publically supporting same-sex marriage in Australia.

Despite her father, the former prime minister of Australia, being one of the most vocal anti-same-sex marriage campaigners in the country, Frances declared her support and her ‘yes’ vote for the upcoming postal survey in a new video.

“You can’t help who you fall in love with,” the 26-year-old said at the start of the clip, posted to the Marriage Equality Twitter. “Love just happens sometimes and it’s unexpected, that’s kind of what’s the awesome thing about it.”

Speaking about her aunty, Christine Forster‘s same-sex relationship, Frances says: “It never really changed anything. She was still Aunty Chris. She’s still going to be at Christmas, she’s still going to be at the family barbecues, her children are still my cousins.”

“This is why it really just doesn’t make sense to me that it’s not allowed.”

Frances went on to say that being a part of her aunt’s marriage in Australia is something that would “be so special” and that she “so, so hopes” to be a part of.

“I think it would make society a much better place. Less fear of discrimination, fear of isolation and loneliness. It has to change, and it will change.”

A few weeks ago, Frances posted an Instagram in support of the ‘Yes’ vote, writing: “I don’t really care much for politics. But I do really care a lot for love.”

“All love is good. Let’s celebrate it.”
